Celebrated Vancouver band The Boom Booms have signed with Midnight Agency. Long-time collaborators and close friends, the group has built a reputation for feel-good, groove-heavy shows that blend soul, funk and tropical rock influences with strong songwriting and crowd-focused energy.
Formed in 2008, The Boom Booms went from East Van block parties to an on-the-fly bus tour from Vancouver to Panama that became the foundation of their debut album Hot Rum. Since then they have spent more than a decade touring internationally and appearing at major festivals including Pemberton, Squamish Live and Toronto Jazz Festival.
Along the way they have won BC’s Peak Performance Project, been voted Best Unsigned Band in Vancouver five times by The Georgia Straight readership, released multiple full-length albums and sold out landmark hometown venues The Commodore Ballroom and The Vogue Theatre. Their time in Brazil also produced the documentary Boom Boom Brazil, spotlighting Indigenous communities and environmental impacts around the Belo Monte Dam.
On stage, The Boom Booms are known for turning rooms into moving, singing crowds Sets move between high-energy, dance-driven sections and more intimate moments, but always return to a sense of shared celebration. Presenters and festival writeups consistently highlight the band’s ability to connect with audiences of all ages, whether in a small theatre or on an outdoor main stage. BeatRoute Magazine captured it simply, calling their sound “feel-good music, soaked in classic soul and served on a 21st-century platter.”
Musically, The Boom Booms draw on folk, reggae, rock, Latin, African and funk traditions, folding those influences into modern soul and pop structures that favour strong hooks and danceable grooves. The result is a versatile live act that fits as naturally on festival bills as at community events and theatre concerts, and a catalogue that continues to resonate with fans drawn to both the party and the stories underneath.
