Midnight welcomes electro-acoustic touring force Dirtwire to its roster. Based on the U.S. West Coast, the multi-instrumentalists blend traditional instruments from around the world with modern electronic production, creating what they call back-porch space cowboy blues, swamptronica and electro-twang.
Their music sits between ancient folk traditions and contemporary bass culture, informed by travels that have taken them from Brazilian favelas and Lagos’ Femi Kuti Shrine to Tokyo clubs, Central American ceremonies and desert festivals in Australia.
Since forming in 2012, Dirtwire have released a deep catalogue of albums, EPs and singles, amassing 10 million+ streams across platforms. Their touring schedule has grown into a heavy festival and headline calendar that includes performances at Electric Forest, Gem & Jam, Hulaween, Shambhala and Envision Festival.
On stage, Dirtwire are known for immersive live sets that feel like communal psychedelic journeys. Kamale ngoni, jaw harps, harmonica, space fiddle, whamola bass, bowed banjo and other global instruments are woven into laptop beats and 808s, shifting from boot-stomping blues and roots-driven grooves to bass-forward electronic mashups and more cinematic, atmospheric passages. Each show is treated as its own experience, with improvisation and instrument-swapping at the core of the performance.
Dirtwire’s catalog sits at the intersection of Americana, world music and experimental electronic production, often described as future revival or alternative Americana as much as electronic bass music. By pairing global folk instrumentation with modern sound design, they have carved out a distinct place in the West Coast bass and festival scenes, helping to expand what roots and electronic music can sound like on large stages and in late-night club rooms alike.
