Lithuanian surf-punk trio shishi has signed to Midnight Agency. Turning Baltic darkness into sharp, hook-driven guitar music, the band blends garage rock, post-punk edge and off-kilter pop instincts, building a reputation for high-energy songs that speak to the disorientation of modern life.
Formed by three vocalists the three first picked up instruments they “couldn’t play”, shishi have grown into one of Eastern Europe’s standout alternative bands. Since their 2018 debut NA x 80, they have released three more albums: MAFITISHEI (2020), Nearly Happily Ever After (2022) and FAQ (2025). In 2021 they were named Alternative Act of the Year at Lithuania’s M.A.M.A. Awards. Recent touring has taken them to New Colossus Festival and SXSW in the United States, a run in Mexico, shows across Poland, Latvia and France, and a Canadian tour.
On stage, shishi are known for tight three-part harmonies, wiry guitar lines, and a live show that leans into chaos without losing control. Press have highlighted the band’s presence as much as their playing; Louder Than War describes them as “a knockout live band,” while reviews consistently point to the project’s mix of grit, humour, and precision.
Musically, shishi fold surf rock, garage, post-punk, riot grrrl and indie pop into what has been called “top-drawer DIY pop” with a Baltic twist. Their songs move from environmentally charged surf anthems to sharp, emotionally honest sketches about burnout, family and feeling unmoored. With a new album cycle underway and increasing international visibility, shishi arrive as a singular voice in the global indie and post-punk landscape.
