Congratulations to Khanvict, who has been awarded the prestigious Prism Prize 2022 Audience Award for his video "Closer" directed by Anjali Nayar.
The Prism Prize award recognizes outstanding achievement in Canadian music video production. The Audience Award is determined by a public vote, and this year the public awarded "Closer" with a cash prize of $5,000.
The video is a collaboration between Khanvict, model/activist Seema Hari, and Filmmaker Anjali Nayar (Silas, Gun Runners). Shot during quarantine, and inspired by the powerful stories coming from Black and Indigenous communities, the three artists decided to explore how issues of colour and caste affect – and infect – the South Asian community.
'Closer' is an emotional and evocative piece, weaving together traditional Punjabi lyrics with Khanvict's signature style. As a Pakistani-born, Surrey B.C. raised producer, Khanvict sculpts the soundtrack to a fantasy world where lush strings, deft percussion, and deep bass live in harmony.
The team at Midnight is excited to see what Khanvict has in store for us next. With his dedication to creating quality content and delivering it directly to his audience, we know it will be something special.
