DJ Shub Comes Out A Winner at JUNO Awards 2022

Midnight Agency would like to congratulate DJ Shub for winning the new JUNO Award category, Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year, proudly sponsored and presented by The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC).

Dubbed Godfather of PowWowStep, DJ Shub has undoubtedly pioneered a growing genre of electronic music. Born Dan General, he is a Mohawk, turtle clan of the Six Nations of the Grand River located in Ontario, Canada.

Shub was presented the award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year for his latest album War Club (2020). It was released to critical acclaim during the pandemic, and features collaborations with other Indigenous and BIPOC artists like Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Boogát, Fawn Wood, and Phoenix Pagliacci to name a few.

Topping off the awards weekend, DJ Shub joined fellow Juno Nominee Snotty Nose Rez Kids for an incredible War Club live performance on the nationally televised Juno Awards 2022 broadcast. From the custom traditional attire, to the Indigenous dancers in full regalia, and digital totem poles representing each performers sacred territory. Every moving part of the production was set with intention.

War Club’s message is a “metaphorical weapon against anything [that’s] holding you down”. Midnight is proud to stand beside DJ Shub on the journey of this award winning message, spreading it’s presentation to creators from coast to coast.
