Midnight Agency proudly welcomes Skinny Dyck, the Western Canadian singer/songwriter, pedal steel player, and twang savant. A throwback in tone yet forward looking in intent, Skinny (the performing alias of Ryan Dyck) pairs classic country craftsmanship with a modern, lean aesthetic.
Following hot on the heels of 2022’s Palace Waiting, Skinny released the full length Easygoing on Victory Pool Records. The album finds him stepping beyond strict country confines while keeping their core in view. Mixed by Mark Nevers, known for work with Lambchop and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Easygoing captures that balance.
Marinating in the success of his off brand twang, Skinny’s reach has expanded from the prairies to audiences worldwide. After steady Canadian and European touring, Festival highlights include Calgary Folk Music Festival, Big Valley Jamboree, and Canmore Folk Festival. Industry recognition has followed, including Western Canadian Music Awards nominations for Recording of the Year (2025) and Songwriter of the Year (2023), and a Country Music Alberta Awards nomination for Album of the Year (2023).
Onstage, Skinny favours feel over flash. Clear, conversational vocals, pedal steel lines that glide, and arrangements that leave room for the lyric define the set. The show translates across listening rooms, theatres, and outdoor stages, with a tight band, grounded tempos, and dynamics that serve the song.
With a new batch of material, this celebrated songwriter is moving a few steps further away from the country music environs he once wholly inhabited. But fear not, twang fans: rather than replacing that sound wholesale, he and his studio collaborators have created their own hybrid approaches that read as a modest retreat from strict country. As Dyck puts it, “I still like to collect my mail at the old shack off the highway, but I no longer want to live there exclusively.”
