Funk Pop Prodigy Diamond Cafe joins Midnight Roster

Posted on

Heralded by Pitchfork as a "funk pop prodigy," Diamond Cafe is the moniker of Canadian multi-instrumentalist Tristan Thompson. The project has earned a global cult following blending Thompson's own take on funk, soul, synth pop, and R&B.

Recently featured in the 4th and 5th seasons of HBO's Ballers, as well as Gashi's 2020 album 1984 (alongside other notable features including Sting), Diamond Cafe was recently profiled by Vans, Pitchfork, and named the Zone 91.3’s “Band Of The Month.

Thompson grew up in Victoria BC and developed a desire to express himself creatively at a young age. He began dancing as a Michael Jackson impersonator at 12 years old, acting out music videos while busking on the main streets of his hometown. At 18, equipped with recording knowledge gained from a previous record deal, Tristan began working on the first Diamond Cafe EP inspired by a genuine new sound that evoked a sensual, sex and love touch, or what Tristan describes as "bathing in a cloud of honey on a very foggy night".

Today, Diamond Cafe has created buzz with two mid-length EPs, features on countless playlists, and debut full-length LP on the way. Diamond Cafe’s almost ‘glam era’ inspired live shows reflect an animated yet natural stage presence, charged with an innate charm that leaves audiences and listeners coming back for more.

There is something truly exciting when envisioning the future of Diamond Cafe, and Midnight is proud to be here as the project unfolds.
