Cadence Weapon, the Edmonton-born, Hamilton-based rapper, producer, writer, DJ, and poet Rollie Pemberton, has joined Midnight Agency. Known for blending electronic production with sharp, socially conscious lyricism, his music has earned widespread recognition including the Polaris Music Prize for Parallel World (2021).
Pemberton has released six albums, five of which have been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, with Breaking Kayfabe (2006), Hope In Dirt City (2012), and Parallel World (2021) being shortlist nominees. He has toured extensively, playing festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Pitchfork Music Festival, Roskilde, and Primavera Sound, while sharing stages with artist including Public Enemy, Diplo, Questlove, and De La Soul.
Beyond music, Pemberton served as Edmonton’s Poet Laureate, with his poem "The Garden" permanently installed at the Alberta Legislature Grounds. He has also worked as a writer and narrator for the VICELAND series PAYDAY and Mister Tachyon, and has hosted lectures and live interviews for CBC q and Red Bull Music Academy.
In April 2024, he released the hyper pop and electro-inspired production of ROLLERCOASTER. The album explores the impact of technology and personal identity, featuring collaborations with Bartees Strange, Loraine James, Jacques Greene, and Machinedrum. As he prepares for a North American tour, his performances continue to challenge and engage audiences.
