Midnight Agency welcomes Daniel James McFadyen, an award-winning indie-folk artist from Nova Scotia. Known for his charismatic performances and vivid storytelling, McFadyen has become a standout name in Canadian folk music. With a knack for interactive live shows, he’s known for packing venues including sold-out nights at Toronto’s Great Hall and Halifax’s Marquee Ballroom.
In 2023, McFadyen released his critically acclaimed EP Songs to Show Your Friends, marking a significant evolution in his sound. Produced by Montreal’s Quinn Bachand, the EP showcases a shift from his “stomp and holler” folk roots to more intricate, melody-driven compositions. This creative leap has earned him three 2024 Music Nova Scotia Awards for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, Folk/Roots Recording of the Year, and Music Video of the Year.
McFadyen’s music continues to evolve as heard in his latest single, Landmine, the first release from his highly anticipated 2025 album. Recorded with close friends in a rented cabin on British Columbia's Shuswap Lake, the song captures a raw, Americana-inspired sound that brings new depth to his already rich body of work. Reflecting on his growth as an artist, McFadyen notes, “I think my songwriting has changed a lot. I’m thinking more about production and instrumentation.”
With his blend of heartfelt storytelling and a continually evolving sound, Daniel James McFadyen is set to make an even greater impact on Canada’s indie-folk scene in 2025 and beyond.
